Q How do I
title a slide so that a judge knows its mine?
Just get one of the pens that will mark on plastic (the
CD markers are perfect) and write on the slide mount a
title and your name. In the bottom left hand corner, as
you view the slide normally, make a round blob. This
signifies which way round the slide will be viewed and
hence projected.
General Competition Rules say:
Prints must be mounted on any colour of standard card
mount which is maximum size 20 inches x 16 inches.
Q What is the best way to mount the print on to
the card?
The quickest and easiest way is to spray the back of the
print and then stick it onto the mount. You can buy
aerosols of adhesive from Jessops specifically made for
this purpose. The spray is called Photo Mount and is the
red can supplied by 3M. The 20" x 16" mounting board is
available from Jessops or Key-Jet www.keyjet.co.uk in
packs of 5 or 10. ( not from Noel at the club in packs
of 10.)
What to do...........
Place the print face down on some newspaper and spray
with the can from a distance of around 6 inches. Spray
the print in one direction, then repeat in the other
direction. Leave it for about a minute for the adhesive
to partially evaporate.
Place the print carefully in position on the mount and
then roller or press it firmly on to the mount.
Be careful what colour mount you buy, there are judges
who seem to think that the mount is as important as the
image. I'd stick to a neutral grey, cream or black.
Some members like to window-mount their prints,
sandwiching their prints between two sheets of card with
a window cut in the front. We have a mount cutter that
can be borrowed from the club for this purpose.
If you need a demo of this, ask Noel or wait until later
in the year for the demonstration night.
