1. General
1.1 The copyright of a submitted print or slide must be held by the author. It is also a condition of entry that Chorley Photographic Society, the L&CPU and the PAGE have the right to copy the images and publish them in articles appertaining to the CPS, L&CPU and the PAGB.
1.2 The CPS would expect members to make their work available for entry into inter club battles, and any external competitions i.e. L&CPU Annual, L&CPU Knock Out etc.
1.3 Colour and Monochrome prints of all formats and sizes will be accepted up to a maximum size of 20 inches x 16 inches. Sizes exceeding this will automatically be disqualified.
1.4 Each print must be mounted. Unmounted prints will be disqualified.
1.5 Slides must be correctly ‘spotted’ for projection. Any format is permitted. A suitable projector must be made available by the author if other than 35mm.
1.6 Prints and slides must only be endorsed with the author's membership number and title of the work. If the entry has no title then it must be endorsed ‘No Title’.
1.7 Prints or slides may be home or trade processed.
1.8 All entries for externally judged competitions must be handed in on the date indicated in the syllabus. The Competition Secretary may offer to accept entries ahead of this date. Entries for internally judged competitions may be handed in on the night.
1.9 All entries, prints and slides, must be accompanied by a completed official entry form and handed to the Competition Secretary.
1.10 Digital work in general will be considered in the same categories as conventional work for all internal competitions.
2. League Competitions
2.1 There will be a total of six League Competitions in a season.
2.2 There will be three sections: C - Beginners; B - Intermediate: A - Advanced. This will apply to both prints and slides.
2.3 Each member will be allowed to enter a maximum of three prints and three slides in each competition.
2.4 An entry will be marked out of 20.
2.5 The average of the best ten marks obtained by an entrant in each section in all League Competitions will be used to determine his or her overall marks for the season.
3. League Awards
3.1 Awards for the best marks in the leagues will be made as follows:
A League Prints: The Alan Rogerson Trophy.
A League Slides: The Christine Kirkham Trophy.
B League Prints: The Eddie Fisher Trophy.
B League Slides: The Charles Binns Trophy.
C League Prints: The Gordon Jenkins Trophy.
C League Slides: The John Trafford Trophy.
4.The Annual Competition
4.1 There will be an Annual Competition and Exhibition.
4.2 The competition will be externally judged.
4.3 The CPS expects that members will make all submissions to the Annual Competition available for exhibition at the Annual Exhibition and for any external competition.
4.4 All entries must be handed to the Competition Secretary, or nominated deputy, on or before the date specified in the syllabus.
4.5 The categories for all sections for prints will be as follows:
Category 1: Open Monochrome.
Category 2: Open Colour.
Category 3: Natural History and Illustrative.
4.6 The categories for all sections for slides will be as follows:
Category 1: Open.
Category 2: Natural History and Illustrative.
4.7 Work may be entered into the Annual Competition provided it has not been entered into a previous Annual Competition. All new work may be entered.
5. Annual Awards
5.1 Awards will be made as follows:
A trophy will be awarded to the winner of each category.
The winning prints from all categories in section A will be judged against each other and the best print will be awarded the Alfred Martin Trophy.
The winning slides from all categories in section A will be judged against each other and the best print will be awarded the Frank Sellars Trophy
The winning prints from all categories in section B will be judged against each other and the best print will be awarded the Ken Tootel Trophy.
The winning slides from all categories in section B will be judged against each other and the best slide will be awarded the Arthur Watson Trophy.
The winning prints from all categories in section C will be judged against each other and the best
print will be awarded the John Walker Trophy.
The winning slides from all categories in section C will be judged against each other and the best
slide will be awarded the Tony Jeffries Trophy.
5.2 The Annual Trophy.
This will be awarded to the author with the highest number of points obtained in the Annual Competition. Points will be awarded as follows:
Commended: 1 point.
Highly Commended: 2 points.
Very Highly Commended: 2.5 points
Third Place: 3 points
Second Place: 4 points
Third Place: 5 points.
Overall best print: l point.
Overall best slide: 1 point.
6. Print and Slide Battles
6.1 Battles will be held according to the conditions mutually agreed with the competing society or societies.
6.2 The entries will be decided at the time by the Committee. However, the handing in of material will not guarantee inclusion, as the final selection will be the decision of the Committee or person/s nominated by them.
6.3 Entries should not have been already entered in previous battles with the competing society or societies.
7. The President's Competition
7.1 The President will set the theme for his competition at the AGM
7.2 This will be an internally judged competition.
7.3 The general competition rules apply.
7.4 Images that have been used in previous CPS competitions are not eligible, however, images used in this competition may be used in the League and Annual Competitions.
